The background in my line of inquiry began when considering ‘how do we create?” As someone who has gone through formal education as both a fine artist and graphic designer, it seems like there’s a point where formal training stops and creating the work falls to a different mechanism. When trying to explain it as a designer educator, I was at a loss for words that would do the mechanism of creation justice. The best I could do to explain to my students was to keep working and develop a sense for the right creative decisions. That by practicing their art they would refine their instinctual application of the creative decision-making process, which is continuous and ongoing in the creation of any work of art or design.
